April 2024

Posted: May 2024

In the vibrant community of Bidford on Avon, creativity thrives among a collective of talented individuals known as the B50 Creatives. Recently, as a proud member of this dynamic group, I had the pleasure of sharing a market stall with John the Author at the inaugural Bidford Village Market of 2024. Despite facing the challenges of Storm Kathleen and its fierce 40mph gusts, the event was a success, and we enjoyed showcasing our works. Held on the first Saturday of each month, this market has become a favourite fixture in our calendar. I look forward to participating again in September, weather permitting, to reconnect with our community and share my creations once again.

Recent Makes

These are two recently made pairs of earrings, the pair on the left feature beautiful pale blue, natural Blue Lace Agate stones, and the pair on the right have mesmerising dark blue Kyanite.

Nouveau Organic Collection

My inspiration for these designs stems from my love of Art Nouveau, and more specifically from the Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona, designed by Antoni Gaudi in the late 19th Century. Inside of this incredible building is overwhelming - the stone is carved in such a way that it takes on the appearance of being alive, and it creates the awesome feeling that you are standing inside a living creature, a gigantic being from another world.

I find crafting these asymmetric pendants with their serpent-like tendrils incredibly satisfying. There's a joy in shaping each piece, especially when I melt the ends of the silver wire to achieve a fluid, organic aesthetic. This technique not only adds a unique character but also infuses the design with a captivating sense of movement. It's fulfilling to witness the transformation from raw materials to finished piece of jewellery.

May Event

Coming up next month, at the end of May on the bank holiday weekend you will find me in Bidford’s lovely St Laurence Church for their Art & Craft Festival. This is an event to raise funds for the upkeep of the church, so there is a small entrance fee (just £2 for adults, children are free) and there will be delicious refreshments and lots of wonderful creations by local artists to browse and buy. I hope you can join us.

Art In The Park

Our unpredictable UK weather is the reason I prefer indoor craft events. However, I have taken the plunge and I am delighted that my application has been accepted to exhibit at this year’s Art In The Park. This fabulous annual event in Jeffson Gardens in Leamington Spa, takes place on the first weekend of August. Come and find me inside one of the gazebos in the Artists’ Village, where hopefully we’ll be sheltered from whatever the weather decides to do that weekend! Having attended the event a few times as a visitor, I can tell you there’s always a wonderful atmosphere, so much to see, artists at work, workshops to attend, bands playing, food vendors, an all-round great day out for all the family, and free to go in. I love it! I’ll be there on both days, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August.

If you're unable to attend an event in person, you can still explore and shop for Paula Wilkinson Jewellery conveniently on my website. Whether you're browsing for a special occasion or simply treating yourself, I'm here to assist you every step of the way. Should you have any questions or need personalised assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. Your satisfaction is my priority, and I'm always delighted to help.

As always, thank you for reading and for supporting my jewellery business.

With very best wishes

Paula
