Black Onyx Wide Hammered Silver Ring, size N

Hand made using traditional methods. The stone setting was created by fitting a thin strip of fine silver around the stone and making it into an ring before soldering it to a sheet of sterling silver making a bezel setting, a cup the correct size for the stone to sit in. The ring band was formed from a strip of sterling silver and shaped over a mandrel. These pieces were then filed and sanded with several grades of abrasive papers to smooth all the edges and remove scratches. The cup was then soldered to the band. The ring was placed in a warm pickling solution to remove the fire scale caused by the blow torch, followed by more filing, sanding and lots of polishing to give the ring its lovely sheen. Lastly the stone was placed in the cup and the silver bezel shaped over the edge of the onyx to hold it in place and burnished.
