How this jewellery was made ↓
This ring has been hand made using traditional methods. The stone setting was created by fitting a thin strip of fine silver around the stone to make a perfectly fitted oval which was then soldered to a sheet of sterling silver to make a bezel setting, a cup the correct size for the stone to sit in. The ring band was formed from a strip of sterling silver and shaped over a mandrel. These pieces were then filed and sanded with several grades of abrasive papers to smooth all the edges and remove scratches. The cup was soldered to the band and the ring was placed in a warm pickling solution to remove the fire scale caused by the blow torch, followed by cleaning and lots of polishing to give the ring its lovely shine. Lastly the stone was placed in the cup and the silver pushed over the edges of the stone to hold it firmly in place and then the setting was burnished.
