How this jewellery was made ↓
Hand made using traditional methods. The ring was formed from a thick strip of oval sterling silver. The stone setting created by fitting a strip of fine silver around the garnet then soldering this to a sheet of silver to make a cup the correct size for the stone to sit in, known as a bezel setting. The pieces were then filed and sanded with several grades of abrasive papers to smooth all the edges and remove scratches. The ring was textured by hammering then the cup was soldered to the ring. It was placed in a warm pickling solution to remove the fire scale caused by the blow torch. Then followed lots of cleaning and and lots of polishing to give the ring its lovely sheen. Lastly the stone was placed in the cup and the silver bezel pushed over the edges of the stone to hold it in place and the setting was burnished.
