Black Onyx Silver Ring, size J

Hand made using traditional methods. The ring was formed from a length of oval shaped sterling silver. The stone setting was created by fitting a strip of fine silver bezel around the onyx stone to make the walls the perfect size for the stone. This was then soldered to a sheet of sterling silver to make a cup for the stone to sit in. These pieces were then filed and sanded with several grades of abrasive papers to smooth all the edges and remove scratches and the cup was soldered to the ring. Then it was placed in a warm picking solution to remove the fire scale caused by the blow torch. Lots of cleaning and polishing followed to give the ring its lovely shine. Lastly the stone was placed in the cup and the silver bezel pushed over the edges of the stone to hold it in place, and the setting was burnished.
