Aquamarine Silver Ring, size N

Hand made using traditional silversmithing methods. The stone setting was created by fitting a strip of fine silver around the stone to make an oval bezel setting, which was then soldered to a sheet of sterling silver, and then cut around to make a cup the correct size for the stone to sit in. The cup wes filed and sanded with several grades of abrasive papers to smooth all the edges and remove scratches. The ring band was formed from a strip of D-shaped sterling silver, shaped over a mandrel and then soldered to the cup. The ring was then placed in a warm pickling solution to remove the fire scale caused by the blow torch, followed by cleaning and lots of polishing to give the ring its lovely sheen. Lastly the aquamarine was placed in the cup and the silver pushed over the stone all around the sides of the setting to hold it in place, and finished off by burnishing.
