Opal Silver Ring size P

Hand made using traditional methods. The stone setting was created by fitting a strip of fine silver bezel around the opal and making it into a ring before soldering it to a sheet of sterling silver to make a cup the correct size for the stone to sit in. The ring band was formed from a strip of D-shaped sterling silver, shaped over a mandrel. These pieces were filed and sanded with several grades of abrasive papers to smooth all the edges and remove scratches. The cup was soldered to the band and the ring was placed in a warm pickling solution to remove the fire scale caused by the blow torch, followed by cleaning and lots of polishing to give the ring its lovely sheen. Lastly the stone was placed in the cup and the silver bezel shaped over the stone and burnished.
